Format
40 multiple choice questions in two tests: 20 on road signs and 20 on road rules. The Georgia DDS does not post a time limit for the knowledge exam, so this practice mock uses 30 minutes. This practice mock uses 4 answer choices per question.
Passing score
You must answer at least 15 of the 20 questions correctly on each test: the Road Signs test and the Road Rules test. A high score on one test does not make up for a low score on the other.
Eligibility
In Georgia you can apply for a Class C instructional permit (Class CP) at age 15. You must pass a vision exam and the knowledge exam. An applicant under 18 must show proof of school enrollment, and a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult must sign the application. Check the Georgia DDS website for the current documents and fees before you go.

Georgia DMV Permit Test study tips

Study order
Start with the three sign chapters, because the Road Signs test is 20 of the 40 questions and must be passed on its own. Then study Right of Way and Speed, Passing, and Parking, which carry the most weight in the Road Rules test. Finish with Safe Driving, the teen license rules, and the DUI and points chapter.
Topics people often miss
Speed, Passing, and Parking has many numbers that are easy to mix up, such as 15 feet from a fire hydrant, 20 feet from a crosswalk, 30 feet from a stop sign, and 50 feet from a railroad crossing, so keep them in one list. The teen license chapter has ages, hours, a midnight to 5 a.m. limit, and passenger rules that change every six months. In the DUI and points chapter, remember that drivers under 21 have a much lower alcohol limit than adults.
Test day tips
You need 15 correct answers out of 20 on each test, so a strong signs score cannot make up for a weak rules score. The Road Signs test is in English only, so learn sign words like YIELD, WRONG WAY, and DO NOT ENTER by sight. Read every answer choice before you pick one, because wrong choices often differ by a single number or word.

Georgia DMV Permit Test exam trends

Half of the exam is the Road Signs test, so sign shapes and colors, warning signs, traffic signals, and pavement lines matter a lot. The Road Rules test covers right of way, school buses and emergency vehicles, Georgia speed limits, passing and parking rules, safe driving, the teen licensing rules (TADRA and Joshua's Law), and DUI and points. The chapters on this site are study groupings, not official test sections.

Start with the three sign chapters, because the Road Signs test must be passed on its own. Then practice right of way and the speed, passing, and parking rules, and finish with the teen license rules and the DUI and points chapter, which are full of numbers. Before test day, take a full 40-question Mock Exam and aim for at least 17 correct in each part.
